Job Summary and Essential Functions

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages competitive markets for wholesale electricity, matching the demands of electricity consumers with power supplies produced by generators and other energy enterprises. Transactions in the NYISO markets average more than $7 billion annually. The NYISO's Finance department invites applications for a full-time Accountant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight of all functions associated with system and resource planning receivables and payables. Specific responsibilities include: oversee the billing, invoicing, and reconciliation procedures for developers of Interconnection Studies, coordinate with the Planning Department to regularly communicate the status of Interconnection Projects; Research and prepare Form 1099 for all independent contractors, as appropriate, recording deposits, payments and accruals on a weekly or monthly basis; preparing monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet general ledger accounts; reconciling activity in bank accounts on a daily and/or monthly basis depending on the account; preparing schedules for inclusion in Monthly Financial Report; cross-training other Finance Accounting staff on direct area of responsibility and accepting cross-training from the team. This role serves as a back up for the other department accountants as required, including accounts payable and market participant receivables and payables.


  • Associates Degree in Accounting required; Bachelor degree in Accounting strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting in a corporate setting desired, focusing on accounts payable, accounts receivable and/or general ledger
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts and experience with accounts payable and receivable
  • Experience working with accounting software systems.
