The Financial Accountant III, under direction, processes complex accounting and financial work, maintains accounting records and prepares financial reports.
Responsibilities
25% Performs complex accounting work to include recording, examining, and analyzing of financial records, documents, or reports. Prepares financial statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits. Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and completeness.
20% Serves as a resource in solving accounting or financial problems. Assists in making recommendations for improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the accounting system, policies, and procedures. Identifies financial discrepancies and budget shortfalls and informs management.
20% Reviews daily cash flow and prepares accounting entries for processing in the accounting system. Monitors all credit card clearing accounts on a daily basis for accurate accounting.
20% Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial and accounting documents and records. Prepares periodic analysis of fund balances and expenditures, and prepares technical reports on payroll, estimates, cost data, and budget items. Responsible for billing/collecting departmental accounts receivable on a monthly basis.
10% Assists with the preparation of the Annual Financial Report and internal and external audits.
5% Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Six years of related experience. Experience in higher education using USAS, Banner, and FAMIS is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Other Requirements
Ability to apply rules and regulations in a complex environment. Ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
